WASHINGTON, D.C. - Stevenson University women's
basketball senior guard Tara Galvin (Lititz, Pa./Manheim
Township) totaled 10 points and seven rebounds in the
first half as the Mustangs built a 20-point halftime lead en route
to a 64-41 victory at Gallaudet Saturday afternoon at the Field
House.
The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for Stevenson (2-10,
1-3 CAC) and a nine-game road losing streak. It was also the first
CAC victory for the Mustangs since a 57-54 win at Gallaudet on Feb.
6, 2008, ending a seven-game conference skid.
Galvin finished the game with 12 points and seven rebounds while
freshman guard JaQuelia Conley (Columbia/Montrose
Christian) led the team with 13, one shy of her
career-high.
Exactly half of Stevenson's 34 first half points came off
turnovers which was matched the combined first half total
of Galvin and Conley.
The Mustangs opened the game on a 15-3 run before later
extending its lead to 20 at halftime after an 11-0 in the final
4:56 of the half.
Stevenson stretched its lead to as many as 29 in the second half
with 18 of its 30 points coming from its bench. All but two of the
14 players who played in the game for the Mustangs scored at least
two points, highlighted by a career-high six from freshman guard
Clare Naldrett (Baltimore/Mercy).
Sophomore guard Amanda Craig (Wilmington, Del./St.
Elizabeth) finished with six points to go along with five
rebounds, six assists and three steals, all career-highs while
sophomore forward Kristen Steiner (Forest
Hill/Fallston) had four points, nine rebounds, three
blocks and three steals.
Senior forward Ashley Burrell (Baltimore/Institute of
Notre Dame) totaled five points, three rebounds,
three assists and four steals and freshman guard Qiana
Coleman (Ellicott City/Mount Hebron) added six points
off the bench.
Stevenson looks for its first back-to-back wins since Jan. 5,
2008 when it welcomes Penn State-Berks to Student Union Gymnasium
on Wednesday for a non-conference contest beginning at 6:00 p.m.
