Owings Mills, MD - Villa hosted St.
Mary's (Md.) in today's game where they earned a loss
of 13-10. The Mustangs (5-4, 1-4 CAC) took 46 shots to St.
Mary's (7-3, 3-0 CAC) 24 while they both tallied 23
groundballs each. Impressive defense by St. Mary's goalkeeper
Ella Schoming, earning 20 saves for the match, prevented multiple
Villa goals.
Scoring opened in the first half with a goal by the Seahawks at
29:37. It was followed a minute later by Villa's
Jamie Jones (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen
Burnie) assisted by Lauren Zegowitz
(Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus). St. Mary's then scored
four consecutive goals in a four minute span before an unassisted
Zegowitz goal put a stop to their run. Back
and forth scoring from both sides resulted in a first half score of
9-4 with St. Mary's leading.
The Mustangs led the second half scoring six goals to the
Seahawk's four, but were unable to overcome the first half
deficit.
Zegowitz led the Mustangs with three goals and two
assists for the day. Jones also tallied three
goals, followed by Cat Connelly (Fallston,
MD/Fallston) with two goals and two assists, and
Kristyna Hnizda (Manchester, MD/North
Carroll) and Megan Weiss (Odenton,
MD/Elizabeth Seton) with one goal each.
The Mustangs return to the field as they travel to McDaniel on
April 3rd for a 4:00 p.m. game.
