Owings Mills, Md.- The Mustangs hosted York
College today, where they received a loss of 14-13. Villa
Julie's record falls to 4-6 (CAC 1-4).
York began the scoring at the 29:02 mark. Jamie
Jones (Glen Burnie, MD / Glen Burnie) retaliated with an
unassisted goal, but was then followed by five consecutive York
goals, 6-1. Meghan Smith (Stevensville, MD /
Kent Island) and Kristyna Hnzida
(Manchester, MD / North Carroll) tallied one goal each before the
end of the half, while York also managed two more goals. The
half came to an end with the Mustangs trailing 8-3.
The Mustangs returned to the field determined to close the
gap. After a York goal, an unassisted Meghan
Smith scored two goals. After two more York
goals, an unassisted Cat Connelly (Fallston, MD /
Fallston) scored followed by Brittany Connelly
(Catonsville, MD / Catonsville) assisted by Jamie
Jones. York scored once more before the Mustangs
went on a scoring streak of four goals within four minutes: an
Mandi Carr (Crownsville, MD / Old Mill) goal
assisted by Cat Connelly, an unassisted
Lauren Zegowitz (Gaithersburg, MD / Damascus)
goal, an unassisted Jamie Jones goal, and an
unassisted Meghan Smith goal. The Mustangs were now only
behind by one point, 12-11. York grabbed a goal to extend
their lead to 13-11. Cat Connelly scored
again at the 3:29 mark. York scored their last goal with only
37 seconds left in the game, 14-12. The Mustangs made a
valiant attempt to tie the game as Cat Connelly
scored from a pass by Lauren Zegowitz with 28
seconds left. However, neither team was able to score again,
bringing the final score to 14-13.
Leading the Mustangs were Meghan Smith with
four goals and Cat Connelly with three goals and
one assist. Junior goalie Kait Brzozowski
(Bel Air, MD / Fallston) tallied 16 saves.
The Mustangs return to the field on Saturday, March 31 as they
host SUNY-Buffalo at 12:00 p.m.
