WESTMINSTER, MD - The Mustangs got back to winning ways with a
hard fought performance against McDaniel College. The
non-conference game was end to end with both teams creating many
chances but in the end the Mustangs held on for a 2-1 win over the
Green Terror.
The Mustangs got on the scoresheet only 11 minutes into the game
when freshman Allison Humphries (Bel Air, MD/John
Carroll) slotted a pass between two defenders for
senior Rose Phelen (Carney, MD/Loch Raven)
who calmly shot the ball into the far corner past the goalkeeper.
In the space of 2 minutes the Mustangs grabbed their second goal of
the game when senior Tonia Cristino (Lancaster,
PA/Hempfield) superbly shot the ball high into the
far corner of the net from the edge of the penalty box.
McDaniel would make things tough for the Mustangs when they
scored only 8 minutes into the second half. The Mustangs held on
and could not make one of their twelve second half shots count.
With only 6 minutes left in the game the Mustangs lost defender
Meghan Smith (Stevensville, MD/Kent
Island) to a red card. The Mustangs held firm
and played out the rest of the game with only 10 players.
The Mustangs do not have much rest as they face another away
game on Thursday 4th October against Hood College.
