The Mustangs hosted NEAC foe Polytechnic
University in tonight's game. Polytechnic took the first
lead of the game but the Mustangs held onto the lead after that
until the end of the game, defeating the Blue Jays 95-86.
Cilk McSweeney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/ Dillard) hit
two back-to-back three-pointers to put the Mustangs ahead 8-4 at
18:03. The Mustangs continued to play aggressively and went
up by as many at 12 points, 32-30, off of a steal and layup by
Steve Segears (Lanham, MD/ St. Johns College HS)
at 9:13. The Blue Jays battled back and closed the gap to
only eight points, 37-29, at 5:56. The Mustangs went up by 12
again at 1:22 off of a layup by Greg Woody
(Baltimore, MD/ Mt. St. Joe) to make the score 47-35. With a
minute left in the half, the Blue Jays went on a five-point run and
ended the half only seven points behind, 47-40.
Segears opened the second half with a rebound and
a layup at 18:38. Elysian Richardson
(Hartford, CT/ Suffield Academy) hit a three-pointer at 13:35 to
make the score 65-46. The Mustangs went up by as much as 24
points, 82-61, after Woody stole the ball and
McSweeney hit a layup at 7:02. The Blue Jays
ended the game with three three-point shots with under
three-minutes of play. Dwayne Allen
(Baltimore, MD/ St. Frances Academy) hit a free-throw shot with
eight seconds left on the clock. The Mustangs ended the game
with the win 95-86.
Top scorer for the game was Poly's Thomas Young with 36
points. Top scorers for the Mustangs were
Segears and McSweeney each with
23 points and Segears also recorded 11
boards. The Mustangs' next game is against D'Youville at 4 pm
on Saturday, February 3.
