BALTIMORE, Md. – Stevenson men's soccer earned a 2-0 road victory over Goucher on Wednesday evening at Beldon Field. The Mustangs improve to 6-1-2 on the season, while the Gophers fall to 3-5-2.
Stevenson controlled the offensive pressure throughout the opening half, outshooting Goucher 10-1. Kameron Ross recorded the Mustangs' first opportunity in the ninth minute before Gaston Magrinat-Valdes put a shot on frame moments later. Michael Bosley followed with an attempt on goal in the 16th minute, but Goucher goalkeeper kept the match scoreless.
The Mustangs nearly broke through in the 27th minute when Blest Dumbuya's attempt struck the post. Bobby Brand added another shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the two sides entered halftime knotted at zero.
Stevenson wasted little time getting on the board following the break. Ross converted a penalty kick in the 47th minute to give the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage.
Goucher looked for the equalizer, forcing Stevenson goalkeeper Andrew Sindicic into his first save of the evening in the 63rd minute. The Mustangs responded in the 72nd minute as Jackson Robinson found the back of the net to double the Stevenson advantage, 2-0.
The Stevenson defense held firm down the stretch. Sindicic turned away another Goucher attempt in the 83rd minute before the Mustangs closed out their second shutout victory of the season. He finished the evening with two saves in the complete-game clean sheet.
Stevenson finished with a 16-7 advantage in shots, placing six attempts on goal. Ross paced the Mustangs with four shots and a goal, while Robinson added the team's second tally. The Mustangs also recorded three corner kicks in the victory.
The Mustangs return to action on Saturday when they open conference play at Messiah. First whistle is scheduled for 6 p.m.
