GRANTHAM, Pa. – Stevenson men's soccer opened Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play on Saturday evening, falling 4-0 to Messiah at Shoemaker Field. The Mustangs move to 6-2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while the Falcons improve to 8-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.
Messiah opened the scoring in the 11th minute when they found the back of the net off an assist. Stevenson looked to respond as Gaston Magrinat-Valdes and Nick Gervase each recorded attempts over the next six minutes.
The Falcons doubled their advantage in the 35th minute, converting a penalty kick to take a 2-0 lead. Stevenson continued to push offensively late in the opening half, with Carter Gourley, Michael Bosley and Landon Eaton each registering shots before the break.
The Mustangs came out aggressively to begin the second half, generating three shots and a corner kick in the opening two minutes. Magrinat-Valdes recorded two of those attempts, while Bosley added another as Stevenson searched for its first goal of the contest.
Messiah extended its advantage in the 75th minute on its second penalty kick of the evening before they scored less than four minutes later to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead. Kameron Ross put Stevenson's lone shot on goal toward the bottom center in the 79th minute, but Messiah's goalkeeper made the save.
Stevenson finished the match with 11 shots, including six in the second half. Magrinat-Valdes led the Mustangs with three shots, while Bosley and Eaton added two apiece. Andrew Sindicic played all 90 minutes in goal for Stevenson and recorded four saves.
The Mustangs return to action on Tuesday when they travel to McDaniel for a 4 p.m. contest.
