OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 6 Stevenson field hockey team shut out St. Mary's College of Maryland, 3-0, on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Mustangs improve to 9-0 on the season and record their eighth shutout of the year.
Stevenson opened the scoring at the 10:25 mark when
Gracyn Catalano found the back of the cage off a feed from
Kailen Hibshman to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
At 32:06,
Coco Wallace doubled Stevenson's advantage, tipping in a penalty corner opportunity with assists from
Lauren Schulz and Hibshman.
With less than five minutes remaining in the contest,
Shae Bennett capped the scoring for the Mustangs, finding the cage off another assist from Hibshman to secure the 3-0 victory.
Stevenson dominated offensively, outshooting St. Mary's, 19-0, including a 10-0 advantage in shots on goal. Hibshman led the Mustangs with three assists for a three-point performance, while Bennett, Catalano, and Wallace each recorded two points. Schulz added an assist.
Jordan Vradenburgh made the start in goal for Stevenson and earned her fourth shutout of the season.
The Mustangs now turn their attention to MAC Commonwealth play, as they host their first conference opponent, Alvernia, on Saturday. The contest is scheduled for noon, as the team also promotes Breast Cancer Awareness.
