OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 6 Stevenson field hockey team defeated Alvernia on Wednesday evening to open MAC Commonwealth play and advance to 10-0 on the season. During the contest, the Mustangs donned pink accessories in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
Stevenson opened the scoring at the 9:13 mark when Gracyn Catalano finished a feed from Hailey Mertz. In the final minute of the first quarter, Monica Druckemiller doubled the Mustangs' lead, converting off an assist from Addie Brandt during a penalty corner opportunity.
Stevenson maintained its 2-0 advantage for the remainder of the contest, securing the shutout victory.
The Mustangs controlled the offensive action throughout the game, outshooting Alvernia 18-1 overall and 13-0 on cage. Catalano and Druckemiller each recorded two points with their respective goals, while Brandt and Mertz each tallied an assist.
Jordan Vradenburgh earned the shutout victory in cage for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs will continue conference play, as they host the Widener Pride on Wednesday. The contest is set to start at 6 p.m. and the team will be hosting its Faculty Appreciation Game.
