OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's soccer team earned a 5-0 victory over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday afternoon, improving to 5-1-2 on the season. Prior to the match, the Mustangs recognized their senior class and celebrated their contributions to the program.
Stevenson opened the scoring early, as
Jorge Montecinos found the back of the net in the sixth minute. The Mustangs controlled the offensive tempo throughout the opening half, outshooting the Griffins 11-1, and carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The Mustangs continued to apply pressure in the second half, erupting for four goals.
Rylan Dauter doubled Stevenson's lead in the 65
th minute off an assist from
Landon Eaton. Ten minutes later,
Matthew Carlson found the back of the net off a feed from Dauter to make it a 3-0 contest.
In the 81
st minute,
Shai Farmer added to the Mustangs' lead with an unassisted goal. Just three and a half minutes later, Montecinos capped off the scoring, netting his second goal of the afternoon off a pass from
Kameron Ross to secure the 5-0 victory.
The Mustangs dominated offensively, outshooting the Griffins 33-4. Montecinos led Stevenson with a four-point performance, recording two goals. Dauter added three points with a goal and an assist, while Carlson and Farmer each contributed a goal. Ross and Eaton each recorded an assist.
Andrew Sindicic and Mason Shilling split time in goal, as Shilling made one save.
Stevenson will prepare to travel to Goucher for a contest on Wednesday. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m.
