OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson men's soccer battled No. 9 Catholic to a 3-3 draw on Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium. The Mustangs moved to 4-1-2 on the season, while the Cardinals moved to 6-0-1.
Catholic struck first in the sixth minute, as they found the back of the net to give the Cardinals an early 1-0 advantage. Stevenson responded in the 12th minute when Kameron Ross scored off an assist from Nick Gervase to level the match at 1-1.
The Mustangs took their first lead of the contest in the 28th minute. Levi Tanguay, who entered the match just minutes earlier, found the back of the net to put Stevenson ahead, 2-1. Catholic answered less than three minutes later, as they scored to even the match at two.
Stevenson goalkeeper Andrew Sindicic kept the match tied heading into halftime, making a pair of saves late in the opening period. The two sides entered the break deadlocked at 2-2.
Catholic generated several opportunities early in the second half, but Sindicic turned away three attempts to keep the Cardinals off the board. Stevenson capitalized in the 68th minute when Gervase scored to give the Mustangs a 3-2 advantage.
The Cardinals responded once again in the 79th minute, as they tied the match at 3-3. Neither side was able to break the deadlock over the final 11 minutes, sending the Mustangs to their second draw of the season.
Gervase led the Stevenson attack with three shots, two shots on goal, one goal and one assist. Ross and Tanguay each added a goal, while Sindicic finished the night with four saves.
The Mustangs return to action on Saturday for senior day against Gwynedd Mercy. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
