OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson women's soccer battled back from a pair of one-goal deficits before ultimately falling to Shenandoah, 3-2, on Wednesday evening at Owings Mills East.
Shenandoah opened the scoring in the fourth minute, as the Hornets found the back of the net to give them an early 1-0 advantage. Stevenson goalkeeper Isabella Serano helped keep the Mustangs within one, recording three saves over the opening nine minutes.
Stevenson found the equalizer in the 29th minute. Courtney Keehner set up Colleen Fanning, who found the back of the net from deep, to knot the contest at 1-1. Serano added another save late in the opening half as the two sides entered the break even.
The Hornets regained the lead in the 57th minute. Serano continued to turn away Shenandoah opportunities, making a pair of saves before the Mustangs responded once again.
In the 72nd minute, Ashley Bowman connected with Kailyn Beall, who scored to even the match at 2-2. Shenandoah answered just five minutes later, as they scored the eventual game-winner in the 77th minute to put the Hornets ahead, 3-2.
Karly Sheahan provided Stevenson with a late opportunity, putting a shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but Shenandoah made the save to preserve the one-goal advantage.
The Mustangs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lebanon Valley for a 1 p.m. contest.
