Kaplan slots six-point night, Treakle nets five goals, Mustangs defeat Pride

CHESTER, Pa. – The Stevenson women's lacrosse team (7-5 overall, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) earned a 13-7 victory over Widener on Wednesday night.

Widener struck less than a minute into the contest, but the Mustangs answered with three straight goals. June Price opened the scoring for Stevenson, followed by Emma Carpenter off an assist from Sarah Perry. At the 9:57 mark, Zoe Kaplan converted a man-up opportunity on a feed from Price to make it 3-1.

After Widener cut into the deficit, Kaplan added her second goal of the quarter and Ava Treakle found the back of the net off an assist from Alice Petersen. The Pride scored once more late in the frame, but Stevenson carried a 5-3 lead into the second quarter.

Widener opened the second with back-to-back goals to narrow the margin, but Treakle stopped the momentum with a goal at 4:55, sending the Mustangs into halftime ahead 6-5.

The Pride again scored first in the third quarter, trimming the lead to one, but Treakle responded off a feed from Kaplan to keep Stevenson in front, 7-6, heading into the final period.

Stevenson pulled away in the fourth. Kaplan tallied back-to-back man-up goals, both assisted by Petersen, before Widener added its seventh at 12:49. The Mustangs closed the game on a four-goal run, highlighted by Treakle's fifth goal of the night with 20 seconds remaining. Carpenter added two goals during the stretch, with assists from Hailey Johnson and Petersen, to secure the 13-7 win.
