OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (4-7 overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) earned a decisive 25-7 victory over Widener on Wednesday night.
The first quarter featured a back-and-forth battle. Widener opened the scoring at 13:31, but Gavin Gossen and Hunter Bryant answered to give the Mustangs a 2-1 edge. The Pride responded with two straight goals to regain the lead before Gossen and Giovanni Daddario each found the back of the net to make it 4-3. After Widener tied the game at 3:28, Bryant and Gossen scored back-to-back to push Stevenson in front once more. The Pride added a goal with three seconds remaining in the quarter, but the Mustangs carried a 6-5 lead into the second.
Widener evened the score early in the second quarter, but Stevenson quickly took control. The Mustangs rattled off six straight goals behind contributions from Camden Deming, Max Racich, Darrell Curtis, and Bryant. Widener added one more at the 2:08 mark, but Stevenson entered halftime with a 12-7 advantage.
The Mustangs dominated the second half, holding the Pride scoreless while pouring in 13 unanswered goals. Deming, Brennan McKneely, John Martin Vince, Peyton LaRocco, Camden Miller, Seth Grossman, Curtis, Gossen, and Racich all contributed during the run as Stevenson pulled away for the 25-7 conference win.
Curtis led the Mustangs with a seven-point night, as Gossen and Deming tallied six. Racich and LaRocco added five points, as Bryant tallied four. Connor Dunay led the Mustangs on the face-off, winning 29 out of 33 and picking up 17 ground balls. Tyler Merchant and Kaden Snead each spent time in goal for combined eight saves.
Stevenson will travel to Eastern on Saturday for their next contest for a 1 p.m. face-off.
