Baseball drops conference match-up to York

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson University baseball team dropped an 8–6 decision to York (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MACC) contest.

Stevenson opened the scoring early, plating runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to build a 3–1 advantage. Junior Tyler Deery highlighted the early offensive push with an RBI single in the second inning and a solo home run in the fourth. Cole Reich added to the Mustangs' momentum with an RBI double in the third inning, while the Stevenson lineup totaled 11 hits on the afternoon.

York (Pa.)  responded decisively in the middle innings, scoring four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 7–3 lead. The Spartans capitalized on timely hitting.

The Mustangs mounted a comeback in the seventh inning, scoring three runs to cut the deficit to one. RBI contributions from Reich and Landon Richard, along with a York defensive error, helped Stevenson close the gap to 7–6. However, York answered with an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning and held Stevenson scoreless over the final two frames to secure the victory.

Deery led Stevenson offensively, finishing with two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Reich also contributed a strong performance with two hits and two RBIs, while Ben Vaughan recorded a team-high three hits.

On the mound, Chris Fortunato (4–2) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs over 4.2 innings.

Stevenson will look to rebound tomorrow when they host York (Pa.) for a double header starting at noon.
