Women’s Lacrosse falls in tight matchup to No. 16 Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Stevenson women's lacrosse team (9-7 overall, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth) fell to No. 16 Messiah, 15-11, on Wednesday afternoon.

Messiah opened the scoring at the 9:08 mark of the first quarter, but the Mustangs responded with a four-goal run. Emma Carpenter and Zoe Kaplan each scored during a player-up advantage, while Olivia Galati and Vivi Kaminaris added goals to give Stevenson a 4-1 lead. The Falcons found the back of the net with 24 seconds remaining in the quarter, as the Mustangs carried a 4-2 advantage into the second.

Kaplan opened the second quarter with another man-up goal off a feed from Alice Petersen, followed by a tally from Galati. Messiah answered with back-to-back goals, but Kaplan struck again on a player-up opportunity to keep Stevenson in front. After the Falcons scored at the 6:07 mark, Petersen connected with Sarah Perry for another Mustang goal. Messiah then closed the half on a 3-0 run to even the score at 8-8 heading into halftime.

The third quarter featured a back-and-forth battle, with June Price scoring for Stevenson before Messiah answered, sending the game into the fourth tied at 9-9.

Kaplan opened the final frame with her fourth goal of the afternoon at 14:21, but Messiah responded with three straight goals to take a 12-10 lead. With 6:05 remaining, Galati scored off an assist from Petersen to pull the Mustangs within one. However, the Falcons closed the game with three unanswered goals to secure the 15-11 victory.

Petersen led the Mustangs with a six-point game, followed by Kaplan with four goals on the night. Galati tallied a hat trick, as four Mustangs contributed a point. Stevenson slotted the advantage on draw controls, 16-11, with Treakle winning eight and Galati grabbing seven. In goal, Emily Steinberg made nine saves on the afternoon. 

The Mustangs will return to Mustang Stadium for their regular season finale and Senior Day against Albright. The contest is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
