Men’s Lacrosse defeats Alvernia 24-9 on Senior Night

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (6-8 overall, 5-1 MAC Commonwealth) rolled to a 24-9 victory over Alvernia on Saturday night. Prior to the game, the Mustangs honored their senior class: Nik Leahan, Brennan McKneely, Kieran Banks, Jesse Resnick, Max Racich, Mason Blacktopp, Kaden Snead, Max Islas, and Kaleb Russell.

Stevenson opened the scoring with goals from Hunter Bryant and McKneely. Alvernia got on the board at the 6:21 mark of the first quarter, but Gavin Gossen, Darrell Curtis, and McKneely each added goals to stretch the lead. The Golden Wolves scored once more late in the quarter, though the Mustangs held a 5-2 advantage after one.

Alvernia struck first in the second quarter, but Stevenson responded with five straight goals. Curtis recorded a hat trick during the run, while Racich and Peyton LaRocco each found the back of the net. The teams traded goals to close the half, with Seth Grossman and Gossen adding late tallies to give Stevenson a 14-5 lead at the break.

Alvernia scored less than 30 seconds into the third quarter, but the Mustangs answered with an eight-goal surge. Giovanni Daddario, Dominic Eckles, John Martin Vince, Bryant, Curtis, Gossen, and Racich all contributed during the stretch. Alvernia added three more goals, while Camden Deming and Ethan Washington capped the scoring to secure the 24-9 win for Stevenson.

Gossen led the Mustangs with a 12-point game off a hattrick and nine assists, tying the No. 2 spot in the program records for points and breaking the record for assists. The assists record has been held by Jimmy Dailey since 2011. Curtis followed with a nine-point outing, as Racich tallied six points. On the faceoff, Connor Dunay won 15 out of 18, as Max Islas won 13-18. In goal, Kaden Snead and Kieran Banks split time for a combined three saves. 

The Mustangs will now prepare to face Messiah on Tuesday. First faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Mustang Stadium.
