OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's lacrosse team (8-6 overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) fell to No. 8 York (Pa.), 17-7, on Wednesday evening.
York opened the contest with three straight goals before Alice Petersen put Stevenson on the board at the 9:23 mark of the first quarter off an assist from (Ava) Evangelina Baldo. The Spartans answered with a four-goal run, but Emma Carpenter cut into the deficit with a goal off a feed from Olivia Galati at 2:08. York added another late goal in the period, while Ava Treakle converted a man-up opportunity from Sarah Perry. Stevenson trailed 8-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The Spartans extended their lead with four unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 12-3 advantage into halftime.
Stevenson opened the third quarter with back-to-back goals from Treakle and Galati, but York responded with three more scores to carry a 15-5 lead into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, Galati and Treakle each found the back of the net, and the Mustang defense held York to just two goals. Despite a stronger second-half effort, Stevenson ultimately fell 17-7.
Galati and Treakle led Stevenson with three-point performances, as Treakle tallied six draw controls. Petersen and Perry each put up two points on the evening. Defensively, Rachel McDonough caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls, as Regan Torbert and Anna Johnston split time in goal for a combined 10 saves.
The Mustangs will jump on the road to face Alvernia in conference action on Saturday. The contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
