ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (4-7 overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) earned a 19-12 road victory over Eastern on Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs came out strong, scoring three straight goals in the opening five minutes behind Hunter Bryant, Darrell Curtis, and Gavin Gossen. Eastern answered with two goals, but Stevenson responded with a five-goal surge. Max Racich, Giovanni Daddario, Camden Deming, Garrett Brenkart, and Bryant all found the back of the net to give the Mustangs an 8-2 advantage.
The second quarter featured more back-and-forth play. Eastern opened the frame with a goal at 14:12, but Racich and Gossen each scored to extend the lead. After another Eagles goal at 9:35, Bryant tallied an unassisted score at 8:35. Eastern added its fifth goal at 3:09, but just eight seconds later Curtis converted a feed from Connor Dunay to send Stevenson into halftime with a 12-5 lead.
Racich opened the third-quarter scoring for the Mustangs before Eastern mounted a four-goal run to trim the deficit to four. Racich struck again at 5:12, and after Eastern netted its 10th goal, Gossen and Curtis each added tallies to push the lead to 16-10 heading into the fourth.
In the final period, Curtis scored back-to-back goals and Racich added another to maintain control. Eastern scored twice in the final five minutes, but Stevenson secured the 19-12 conference win.
Bryant, Curtis, Gossen, and Racich all posted a six-point game, as Daddario and Brennan McKneely each tallied two. Six Mustangs contributed one point in the contest, as Dunay won 15 faceoffs and picked up 12 ground balls. Tyler Merchant stood in net for the Mustangs, making 14 saves.
The Mustangs will remain on the road, as they prepare to battle No. 8 York on Wednesday. First faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in York, Pa.
