Mustangs drop to No. 8 Spartans in road contest

YORK, Pa. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (5-8 overall, 4-1 MAC Commonwealth) fell to No. 8 York, 18-5, on Wednesday evening.

Brennan McKneely opened the scoring at the 13:14 mark of the first quarter, but the Spartans quickly responded to even the score. Camden Deming gave Stevenson a 2-1 edge with a goal at 8:07, before York closed the quarter on a four-goal run to take a 5-2 lead into the second.

York struck first in the second quarter, but back-to-back goals from Darrell Curtis and Hunter Bryant pulled the Mustangs within reach. The Spartans answered with four consecutive goals to build a 10-4 advantage at halftime.

In the third quarter, York added an early goal before Max Racich found the back of the net at 11:24. The Spartans then finished the game on a seven-goal run to secure the 18-5 victory.

Deming led the Mustangs with two points, while four additional players recorded goals. In net, Tyler Merchant totaled 17 saves.

The Mustangs return home to face Alvernia on Saturday in Mustang Stadium. Prior to the matchup the team will honor their senior class, and after the game there will be a firework display sponsored by Stevenson's SGA. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
