CHESTER, Pa. — Stevenson University baseball team earned a split in its doubleheader against Widener University on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 11-3 before falling in a tightly contested game two 6-5.
Game 1
In the opener, Stevenson delivered an explosive offensive performance en route to an 11–3 victory over Widener. The Mustangs set the tone early, plating five runs in the first inning behind timely hitting and aggressive base running. RBI contributions from Cole Reich, Collin Palmieri, Graham Sears, and Ben Vaughan highlighted the early surge, giving Stevenson a commanding lead they would not relinquish. Reich and Palmieri led the offense with three hits apiece and combined for six RBIs, while Shaun Rudick added three hits and three runs scored.
On the mound, Will Heyse earned the win, tossing 4.1 innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out six. Stevenson's bullpen, including Sommers Turner and Ari Lonstein, limited Widener to just one run over the final 2.2 innings to secure the victory.
Game 2
Game two proved to be a back-and-forth battle, as Stevenson came up just short in a 6–5 loss. Widener jumped out to an early 3–0 lead in the first inning, but Stevenson responded with a strong middle-inning push. A two-RBI single from Vaughan in the fourth inning sparked the comeback, followed by a three-run fifth inning fueled by contributions from Gavin Wagner, Sears, and Landon Richard, giving the Mustangs a 5–3 advantage.
However, Widener answered with runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game before ultimately walking it off in the bottom of the ninth. Stevenson totaled nine hits, with Sears leading the way with two hits and two runs scored. The Mustangs utilized multiple pitchers throughout the contest, with Zane Stone taking the loss after allowing the game-winning run in the final frame.
The Mustangs return to action on Tuesday when they travel to the University of Valley Forge. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
