Mustangs sweep Valley Forge in double header

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. - Stevenson University opened the doubleheader with a narrow 6–5 victory over Valley Forge, and defeated the Patriots 16-5 in the second game of the double header on Tuesday afternoon.

Game 1

The Mustangs struck early in the second inning when Vincent Licor drove in the game's first run on a sacrifice groundout.

Stevenson extended its lead with a two-run fourth inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Gavin Wagner and aggressive baserunning that capitalized on Valley Forge miscues. The Mustangs added two more runs in the sixth inning on sacrifice RBIs from Zach Mayza and Shaun Rudick, building a 5–1 advantage.

Valley Forge responded with a four-run sixth inning to cut the deficit to one, but Stevenson answered in the seventh as Landen Eyster brought home an insurance run that proved decisive.

On the mound, Ari Lonstein earned the win, tossing five innings while allowing just one run and striking out three. Despite late pressure from Valley Forge, Stevenson's bullpen held firm, with Chris Fortunato closing out the game to preserve the victory. Offensively, Jaylon Surell and Gavin Wagner each recorded two hits to lead the Mustangs.

Game 2

Stevenson completed the sweep in dominant fashion with a 16–5 victory in game two, fueled by 14 hits and 16 runs. The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead in the first inning behind RBI production from Christopher Manco and capitalized on defensive errors to take a 2–0 advantage.

After Valley Forge briefly tied the game in the second inning, Stevenson regained control and broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning. The rally was highlighted by a two-run double from Mayza and consistent pressure that forced multiple defensive errors.

The Mustangs put the game out of reach in the seventh inning, erupting for eight runs on seven hits. Key contributions came from Mayza, Cole Reich, Wagner, and Landon Richard, each driving in runs as Stevenson's lineup produced up and down the order.

Mayza led the offensive surge, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while multiple players recorded multi-hit performances. On the mound, Dylan Grice earned the win, allowing two runs over five innings of work to set the foundation for the lopsided victory.

The Mustangs return to action on Friday when they host Albright College for a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MAC Commonwealth) match up. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
