Mustangs downed by No. 11 Dickinson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (1-4) fell to the No. 11 Dickinson Red Devils, 12-9, on Saturday night in Mustang Stadium.

Max Racich opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the game, finishing a play set up by Hunter Bryant. Dickinson quickly responded to tie the game, but Darrell Curtis gave Stevenson the lead again with a man-up goal at the 10:18 mark. Gavin Gossen followed with a fast-break goal to put the Mustangs ahead 3-1. The Red Devils answered with two goals to even the score, before Gossen netted his second of the quarter to give Stevenson a 4-3 advantage heading into the second.

In the second quarter, Dickinson scored four straight goals while holding Stevenson scoreless, taking a 7-4 lead into halftime.

The Red Devils opened the third quarter with their eighth goal of the night. Curtis capitalized on another man-up opportunity to cut the deficit to 8-5, but Dickinson responded with two more goals to take a 10-5 lead into the final period.

Dickinson struck again at the 13:37 mark of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to six. Racich answered with his second goal of the game to make it 11-6. The Red Devils added another goal at the 2:41 mark, but Stevenson mounted a late push with three goals in the final minute. Despite the late surge, Dickinson held on for the 12-9 victory.

Curtis led the Mustangs with five points on three goals and two assists. Gossen finished with two goals and two assists, while Racich recorded a hat trick. Bryant and LaRocco each added a point, and Tyler Merchant made 15 saves in goal.

Stevenson will now prepare for the Callum Robinson Mustang Classic, beginning Friday against Washington & Lee. First faceoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Mustang Stadium.
