Baseball splits doubleheader against Notre Dame of Maryland

ABERDEEN, Md. – The Stevenson University baseball team opened its doubleheader with a 7–3 victory over Notre Dame (Md.) on Saturday afternoon and fell 15-9 in the second game.

Game 1

The Mustangs started hot, scoring three runs in the first inning. Ben Vaughan singled and Landen Eyster doubled to set up an RBI sacrifice fly from Landon Richard, while Shaun Rudick and John Noll each reached on errors that allowed two more runs to score. 

Stevenson added another run in the second when Levi Loughry doubled and came home on an RBI single from Graham Sears to push the lead to 4–0. Notre Dame responded with two runs in the third, but the Mustangs answered with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to extend the advantage. 

On the mound, Will Heyse (2–0) earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing two runs on two hits while striking out six. Jake Treasure and Colin Bull combined in relief to secure the victory as Stevenson took game one of the doubleheader.

Game 2

The Mustangs struck first in the opening inning as Caleb Laverty delivered an RBI double down the left-field line before Shaun Rudick followed with an RBI single to give Stevenson an early 2–0 lead. Notre Dame responded quickly, tying the game in the first before taking control with three runs in the second.

Ben Vaughan highlighted the offense with a two-run home run in the fifth inning, while Vincent Licor added a solo homer in the eighth. Later in the frame, Landen Eyster delivered a three-RBI double to right center, giving the Mustangs a brief 9–8 advantage.

Notre Dame answered in the bottom of the eighth with a seven-run inning to reclaim the lead and secure the 15–9 victory.

Rudick led Stevenson with three hits, while Vaughan added two hits, including a home run and two RBIs.

The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Lebanon Valley for a 3:30 p.m. game.
