Men’s Volleyball Battle but Fall to No. 5 Messiah in Three-Set MAC Matchup

Owings Mills, Md. (March 25) — The Stevenson men's volleyball team battled throughout three competitive sets on Wednesday night but ultimately fell to Messiah in straight sets (25–16, 25–18, 25–16) in MAC action after a resilient showing.

Set 1:
Stevenson opened the match trading early points, highlighted by kills from RC Getteau and Tanner Laukhuff to almost keep things even at 4–5. The Mustangs continued to respond to Messiah runs, with Getteau and Corwin Trouteaud each finding success offensively to trim the deficit midway through. After a timeout at 14–10, Stevenson strung together a brief push behind a block from Trouteaud and Getteau, but Messiah used a late surge, including back-to-back service aces, to close out the set 25–16.

Set 2:
The Mustangs came out energized in the second, with Laukhuff opening the scoring and Adam Sawyers contributing multiple kills to keep Stevenson within striking distance. Trailing 10–6, Stevenson battled back with points from Getteau and Adam DeRubertis, while Sawyers added another key finish to cut into the lead. Late in the set, Laukhuff delivered a pair of kills and Trouteaud combined on a block to spark momentum, but Messiah answered down the stretch to take the frame, 25–18.

Set 3:
Stevenson continued to compete in the third, with DeRubertis and Laukhuff providing early offense to keep the Mustangs within range. After falling behind 7–1, the Mustangs regrouped with a small run fueled by kills from Laukhuff and DeRubertis, along with a block from Sawyers. Trouteaud added a late kill and the Mustangs capitalized on a few Messiah errors to extend rallies, but the Falcons maintained control and secured the set, 25–16, to complete the match.

Stevenson will look to bounce back as they travel to face MAC foe No. 4 Stevens on Saturday, March 28th at 3 p.m.
