Baseball falls to Hood

COLUMBIA, Md. — The Stevenson University baseball team fell to Hood College, 7–3, on Sunday afternoon in conference action. The Mustangs totaled eight hits, but Hood used timely hitting and to earn the win. 

Stevenson opened the scoring in the second inning when Jaylon Surell lined an RBI single to bring home John Padousis. Hood answered with two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to build its lead. 

The Mustangs chipped away in the fifth, as Zach Mayza launched a solo home run and Vincent Licor added a sacrifice fly to make it 5–3. Mayza led Stevenson at the plate with three hits, while Shaun Rudick added two. 

Charlie Wentker took the loss for Stevenson, while Jacob Laumann turned in 2.2 innings of relief. 

The Mustangs return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Waynesburg University for a 3 p.m. start time.
