Chambersburg, Pa. (March 11) — The Stevenson men's volleyball team delivered a commanding performance Wednesday night, sweeping Wilson College in straight sets, 3–0 (25–20, 25–19, 25–19), at Gannett Field House, after seeing a balanced attack from all Mustangs involved.
Set 1:
Stevenson wasted little time settling into rhythm.
Tanner Laukhuff sparked the early offense with a pair of kills, while
RC Getteau and
Aden Thompson combined for a block that forced a Wilson attack error to push the Mustangs ahead.
Jackson Bones joined the attack midway through the set with a strong finish from
Connor Roth, keeping Stevenson in front during a brief Wilson rally. Laukhuff continued to lead the offense with another kill, and the Mustangs capitalized on a late Phoenix miscue to close the set, 25–20.
Set 2:
The Mustangs carried their momentum into the second frame.
Dean Holbrook opened the scoring with a kill, and a block with Bones followed with another finish to keep Stevenson ahead early. Getteau added a kill during a mid-set stretch that helped extend the Mustangs' lead, while Holbrook and Thompson chipped in with kills at the net. Wilson trimmed the margin briefly, but Stevenson maintained control behind steady offensive contributions from each player. The Mustangs executed down the stretch to claim the set, 25–19, and take a 2–0 match advantage.
Set 3:
Looking to complete the sweep, Stevenson came out strong in the third set. Getteau and Thompson delivered multiple key kills to establish an early edge, and a few Wilson attack errors kept the Mustangs in command. A service ace from Laukhuff helped stretch the lead late, while the defense forced several Wilson attack errors. With the score nearing the finish, Stevenson remained composed as Getteau delivered the final kill off a set from
Kyler Robinson, sealing the 25–19 set victory and the straight-set sweep.
The Mustangs will return to action Saturday, March 14, at the No. 4 ranked Juniata Tri-Match, where they will face Mount Union at 1 p.m.
