Mustangs dealt heartbreak loss by Neumann on Senior Day

REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Stevenson men's ice hockey team (14-7-1 overall, 13-4-1 MAC) suffered a 3-2 loss to Neumann (14-7-1 overall, 13-4-1 MAC) in the final minutes on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the contest, Stevenson honored its seven seniors: Aidan McDowell, John Musella, Blake Benson, Jack Karlsson, Ford DeLoss, Connor MacDonell, and Caden Smith.

Smith opened the scoring at the 6:38 mark of the first period, finishing a play set up by Musella and McDowell. Benson added to the lead late in the period, scoring with under a minute remaining off assists from Smith and McDowell to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage at the first intermission.

Neumann cut the deficit to one at 16:33 of the second period before tying the game 11 minutes into the third. The Knights then netted the go-ahead goal at the 17:29 mark to secure the 3-2 victory. Despite a late push from Stevenson, the Mustangs were unable to find the equalizer.

Stevenson controlled the pace of play, outshooting Neumann 42-28. Smith and McDowell each recorded two-point performances, while Musella and Benson added one point apiece. DeLoss made 25 saves in net.
