REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Stevenson men's ice hockey team (14-7-1 overall, 13-4-1 MAC) suffered a 3-2 loss to Neumann (14-7-1 overall, 13-4-1 MAC) in the final minutes on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the contest, Stevenson honored its seven seniors: Aidan McDowell, John Musella, Blake Benson, Jack Karlsson, Ford DeLoss, Connor MacDonell, and Caden Smith.
Smith opened the scoring at the 6:38 mark of the first period, finishing a play set up by Musella and McDowell. Benson added to the lead late in the period, scoring with under a minute remaining off assists from Smith and McDowell to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage at the first intermission.
Neumann cut the deficit to one at 16:33 of the second period before tying the game 11 minutes into the third. The Knights then netted the go-ahead goal at the 17:29 mark to secure the 3-2 victory. Despite a late push from Stevenson, the Mustangs were unable to find the equalizer.
Stevenson controlled the pace of play, outshooting Neumann 42-28. Smith and McDowell each recorded two-point performances, while Musella and Benson added one point apiece. DeLoss made 25 saves in net.
The Mustangs will turn their attention to Alvernia University on Friday evening. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
