GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Stevenson men's lacrosse team (1-3) fell to the No. 9 Gettysburg Bullets 16-12 on Saturday night.
Gettysburg opened the contest with a five-goal run before Peyton LaRocco put Stevenson on the board at the 6:23 mark of the first quarter. The Bullets added three more goals before Zachary Cotton found the back of the net, as Stevenson trailed 8-2 at the end of the opening frame.
The Bullets began the second quarter with three straight goals. Darrell Curtis stopped the run at 8:24, finishing a feed from Hunter Bryant. With 1:12 remaining in the half, Max Racich added another goal for the Mustangs to make it 11-4 heading into halftime.
Gettysburg scored back-to-back goals to start the third quarter before Curtis converted on an assist from Gavin Gossen to make it 13-5. The Bullets answered three minutes later, but Racich responded off a pass from Camden Deming. Gettysburg added one more goal late in the quarter to take a 15-6 lead into the fourth.
The Bullets netted their 16th goal less than a minute into the final period, but Stevenson mounted a six-goal run to close the gap. Despite the late surge, the Mustangs fell 16-12.
Racich and LaRocco led Stevenson with four points each, while Bryant and Curtis tallied three apiece. Nicholas Ungerland and Tyler Merchant split time in goal, with Ungerland recording four saves and Merchant adding 15.
The Mustangs will return home to face No. 12 Dickinson on Saturday. First faceoff is set for 7 p.m. in Mustang Stadium.
