Men’s Ice Hockey Takes down Wilkes in MAC Semifinals, Advances to MAC Championship

REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The No. 2 seeded Stevenson men's ice hockey team (16-9-1 overall, 13-6-1 MAC) earned a 6-2 victory over the No. 3 Wilkes Colonels on Saturday afternoon in the MAC Semifinals.

Caden Smith wasted no time getting the Mustangs on the board, scoring just nine seconds after the opening faceoff on a fast break, assisted by Jack Karlsson and John Musella. At the 18:54 mark of the first period, Gage Parillo extended the lead to 2-0 with assists from Connor MacDonell and Keenan Schneider, sending Stevenson into the first intermission in control.

Matt Yeager added a third goal less than 90 seconds into the second period off assists from Aiden Lindley and Greg Spitznagel. Wilkes responded at 3:03 with its first goal of the game, but Blake Benson answered at 8:50, finishing a feed from Musella to give the Mustangs a 4-1 advantage heading into the final period.

Wilkes scored again midway through the third period, but Stevenson quickly regained momentum. Musella netted the Mustangs' fifth goal with assists from Parillo and Matt Gough. At the 16:08 mark, Spitznagel sealed the 6-2 win with an empty-net goal off a pass from Jack Costabile.

Musella led Stevenson with a three-point performance, while Parillo and Spitznagel each recorded two points. Six additional Mustangs registered a point, and Ford DeLoss made 30 saves in net.

With the win, Stevenson advances to the MAC Championship, where it will face the No. 1 seeded Neumann Knights on Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at IceWorks in Aston, Pa.
