OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson Mustangs women's lacrosse (1-2) fell to the Washington College (Md.) Shorewomen, 14-10, on Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.
Olivia Galati opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 12:24 mark of the first quarter. The Shorewomen answered at 6:10 to even the contest at 1-1. Emma Carpenter restored Stevenson's lead with her first goal of the day, but Washington responded with a four-goal run into the second quarter.
The Mustangs battled back with a four-goal surge of their own, highlighted by tallies from Ava Treakle, Megan Greenwell, Zoe Kaplan, and Galati, to take a 6-5 advantage into halftime.
Washington seized momentum in the third quarter, scoring eight unanswered goals to build a 13-6 lead heading into the final frame. Stevenson opened the fourth with back-to-back goals from Treakle and Vivi Kaminaris, but the Shorewomen halted the run with a man-down goal at the 10:57 mark. Galati and Treakle each added another goal late in the contest, but Washington held on for the 14-10 victory.
Treakle led the Mustangs with four points and controlled nine draws, while Galati recorded a hat trick. Carpenter added two points, and four additional Mustangs each recorded a point. In goal, Emily Steinberg made 11 saves.
Stevenson remains to action at home against the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets with the opening draw scheduled for 6 p.m.
