COLMAR, Pa. – The Stevenson Mustangs men's ice hockey (15-9-1 overall, 14-6-1 MAC) defeated the Arcadia Knights 4-1 on Friday night.
Matt Gough opened the scoring at the 3:50 mark of the first period off a feed from Jack Day. Just three minutes later, Aidan McDowell doubled the lead with assists from Carson Galin and Day. With less than two minutes remaining in the opening frame, Blake Benson found the back of the net off a John Musella assist to give the Mustangs a 3-0 advantage heading into intermission.
Arcadia responded with a power-play goal at 4:14 in the second period, but Stevenson sealed the victory in the final frame when Benson netted an empty-net goal to secure the 4-1 win.
Benson led the Mustangs with two goals, while Day recorded two assists. Three additional Mustangs tallied a point, and Brandon Hemmer paced the team with four blocked shots. In goal, Louis Finnegan turned aside 21 shots on the night.
Stevenson now turns its attention to postseason play and will host No. 3 seed Wilkes Colonels men's ice hockey on Saturday, February 28, in the MAC Tournament. The Mustangs enter as the No. 2 seed, with game time to be announced.
