Owings Mills, Md. (February 14) — Stevenson men's volleyball turned in a balanced performance Saturday afternoon inside Owings Mills Gymnasium, shaking off an opening-set setback and rallying for a 3–1 victory (23–25, 25–23, 25–19, 25–22) over Mount Union.
Set 1: The Mustangs traded blows early as kills from
Tanner Laukhuff and
Jackson Bones kept things level through the first stretch.
Corwin Trouteaud found the floor off a
Connor Roth assist to even the score, and a late block combo from
Adam Sawyers and
Kevin Kouchoukos sparked a mini-run that nudged Stevenson in front. Bones added a service ace and Roth spread the offense to multiple attackers, but Mount Union strung together points late to edge out the opener, 25–23.
Set 2: Stevenson responded immediately. DeRubertis and Laukhuff powered the offense out of the gate, while Sawyers and Roth teamed up for key blocks to flip a narrow deficit into a 10–7 lead. Robinson delivered a clutch service ace during a 3–0 spurt, and Laukhuff caught fire down the stretch with back-to-back kills to break a 20–20 tie. After trading points late, Mount Union misfired on serve to hand Stevenson the 25–23 set win and even the match.
Set 3: The Mustangs seized full control in the third. DeRubertis hammered multiple swings from the right side, Sawyers added a timely putaway, and the Stevenson block forced several attack errors to open a five-point cushion. Laukhuff continued to terminate in transition, and Kouchoukos capped a late rally with a clean kill from Roth. Stevenson closed strong on a 7–2 run to take the frame, 25–19.
Set 4: With momentum on their side, the Mustangs stayed composed in a back-and-forth final set. Laukhuff and DeRubertis combined for key points through the middle of the stanza, and a DeRubertis ace gave Stevenson breathing room at 18–16. Roth and the front row tightened up defensively, turning away multiple Mount Union attempts before Laukhuff sealed the match with the decisive kill at 25–22.
The Mustangs now turn their attention to their first MAC matchup of the 2026 season when they travel to Hood on Thursday, February 19 at 7 p.m.
