Owings Mills, Md. (February 14) — The Stevenson Mustangs battled through a MAC Commonwealth match up Saturday evening, showing grit despite a tough 48–39 result against Messiah in the Owings Mills Gymnasium.
The Mustangs struck early when
Nadia Ferguson answered an opening three with one of her own to tie the game, but a brief Falcon run created an early deficit.
Destiny Towns provided an immediate spark off the bench, converting a pair at the line, while Stevenson's defense forced tough looks and kept the margin manageable. After the first 10 minutes, the Mustangs trailed just 16–6 with several open shots rattling out.
In the second quarter, Stevenson continued to grind on the glass.
Kalea Wynter created second-chance points with a strong put-back layup, and Towns again delivered from the stripe to trim the gap. Though shots were hard to come by, the Mustangs' effort on the boards and hustle plays kept possessions alive, sending them into halftime still within reach at 27–12.
Coming out of the break, Stevenson found more rhythm. Ferguson attacked the lane and
Janie Smith provided a lift with an efficient scoring burst off the bench. The Mustangs tightened defensively and began converting second-chance opportunities, putting together their most productive quarter with 14 points to cut into the lead heading to the fourth.
The final period showcased Stevenson's resilience. Ennis knocked down a three and continued to pressure defensively, while Smith added another strong finish inside. The Mustangs outscored the Falcons 13–8 in the closing minutes, forcing turnovers and controlling the pace as they fought to the final horn, but it was not enough as the Falcons left with the 48-39 win.
The Mustangs will look to carry that fourth-quarter momentum into their next match up when they host Albright on Wednesday, February 18 at 6 p.m.
