Sheahan Nets Two Goals as Stevenson Battles Widener to 2-2 Draw

CHESTER, Pa. – The Stevenson University women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw against Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth opponent Widener University on Saturday afternoon at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. Senior Karly Sheahan led the Mustangs offensively, netting both goals as Stevenson earned a point in conference play.

The Mustangs wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, striking in the ninth minute of action. Sheahan found the back of the net at the 8:03 mark off an assist from Kailyn Beall, giving Stevenson an early 1-0 advantage.

Widener responded with offensive pressure throughout the opening half, recording nine shots. However, Stevenson goalkeeper Isabella Serano stood strong between the posts, collecting six first-half saves to preserve the Mustangs' one-goal lead heading into halftime.

Stevenson carried its momentum into the second half, doubling its advantage in the 52nd minute. Sheahan capitalized on a scoring opportunity at the 51:51 mark, registering her second goal of the afternoon to extend the Mustangs' lead to 2-0.

The Pride mounted a late comeback, breaking through in the 72nd minute when they found the back of the net on a breakaway to cut the deficit in half. Just over two minutes later, they scored the equalizer at the 73:43 mark, bringing the contest level at 2-2.

Despite surrendering the lead, Stevenson continued to push offensively in the closing minutes. Beall recorded shots on goal in the 78th and 89th minutes, but Widener goalkeeper turned away both attempts to preserve the draw.

Sheahan paced the Mustangs with five shots, including four on goal, while Beall added two shots on goal and an assist. Ashley Bowman contributed a shot on target as Stevenson finished with eight total shots, seven of which were on goal. Serano finished the afternoon with seven saves across 90 minutes of action.

The Mustangs return to action on Wedneday when they host Neumann University on Owings Mills East for a 7 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match-up.
