Men's Soccer Falls to York in Narrow 1-0 Conference Battle

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University men's soccer team fell to York College of Pennsylvania, 1-0, on Friday evening at Owings Mills East in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth action.

With the loss, the Mustangs move to 8-4-2 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play, while the Spartans improve to 9-3-2 overall and 2-1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.

York applied offensive pressure early in the contest, forcing Stevenson goalkeeper Andrew Sindicic to make a save in the seventh minute. The Mustangs responded with an offensive opportunity from Daniel Baena in the eighth minute, followed by a corner kick.

The Spartans broke through in the 17th minute when they found the back of the net off an assist, giving York a 1-0 advantage.

Stevenson looked to answer immediately, as Blest Dumbuya registered a shot in the 18th minute before Rylan Dauter sent an attempt high just moments later. Despite the Mustangs' offensive efforts, York maintained its one-goal lead heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Mustangs increased their offensive intensity, recording five second-half shots and three corner kicks. Nick Gervase and Kameron Ross generated scoring opportunities early in the half as Stevenson searched for the equalizer.

One of Stevenson's best opportunities came in the 62nd minute when Gaston Magrinat-Valdes fired a shot toward the upper-left corner, forcing York goalkeeper Jake Bono to make a save. Gervase followed with another attempt less than a minute later, but his shot went wide.

The Mustangs continued to apply pressure, earning another corner kick in the 71st minute that led to a shot from Jackson Robinson. However, York's defense held firm.

Sindicic finished the evening with four saves in 90 minutes of action. Gervase led Stevenson offensively with two shots, while six other Mustangs registered one attempt apiece.

The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Hood College for a 7 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match-up.
