REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Stevenson women's ice hockey team (3-15-1 overall, 3-11-1 MAC) skated to a 2-2 tie with Wilkes (17-1-1 overall, 15-1-0 MAC) on Saturday afternoon before falling in overtime.
The Mustangs held strong defensively in the first period, shutting down all 13 Wilkes shots to keep the game scoreless.
Wilkes opened the scoring seven minutes into the second period and added another goal two minutes later.
Kayedi Spone found the back of the net on the power play in the 16th minute of the third period. Stevenson then pulled its goalie with 2:13 remaining, which led to a goal by Kiana Baker, assisted by Meghan Croyle and Jalyn Jones, to tie the game and force overtime.
The Colonels found the go-ahead goal one minute into the overtime period.
Five Mustangs notched points in the contest, including an assist from Emma DeMan, while goaltender Emily Carson turned away 44 shots.
Stevenson returns to action on Friday, February 6, when the Mustangs host their Faculty Appreciation Game at the Reisterstown Sportsplex. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
