FREDERICK, Md. – The Stevenson women's ice hockey team (3-14-1 overall, 3-10-1 MAC) earned an 8-2 victory over the Hood Blazers (11-6-2 overall, 7-6-2 MAC) on Friday afternoon.
Carleigh Barwick opened the scoring at the 3:18 mark of the first period, finishing a play set up by Abby Smith and Kylie Chandler to give Stevenson a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The Mustangs added four goals in the second period, beginning with a first career-goal for Ashlee Morris at 3:45 off an assist from Meghan Croyle. Barwick followed with a shorthanded goal before Hood got on the board at the 10-minute mark. Jalyn Jones responded with a goal less than three minutes later, assisted by Maggie Dean, and Croyle capped the period with her second goal of the game one minute later to give Stevenson a 5-1 advantage at the break.
Jones opened the third period with a power-play goal, assisted by Kira Otto, then added another just two minutes later. Hood converted on a power-play opportunity midway through the period, but Jones completed the scoring with her fourth goal of the game, assisted by Otto and Chandler, to seal the 8-2 win.
Stevenson outshot Hood, 42-26, in the contest. Jones led the Mustangs with four goals, while five Stevenson players recorded multi-point performances. Emily Carson earned her first collegiate win in net, making 24 saves.
The Mustangs return home to Reisterstown Sportsplex on Saturday to host the Wilkes Colonels. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
