Baltimore, Md. (January 3) – The Stevenson men's basketball team opened the new year on the road at Johns Hopkins, but could not begin 2026 in the win column, narrowly falling in a hard-fought non-conference matchup, 90-82.
After the Blue Jays opened the scoring with a two-point basket, the Mustangs answered immediately and stayed stride for stride with their opponent. The first 10 minutes of action featured five ties as the teams traded baskets. Johns Hopkins briefly gained separation, but
Christian Jackson finished a layup to cut the deficit before
Kyle Luddy evened the score once again at 21-all.
The contest saw another tie before the Blue Jays held a slim advantage for the next two minutes. Stevenson closed the gap in the final moments of the half, highlighted by a three-pointer from
Kole Beaman with 34 seconds remaining. A pair from the charity stripe allowed Johns Hopkins to carry a narrow 39-37 lead into halftime.
Eager to take control, the Mustangs came out firing to open the second half, beginning with
Kendall Seguignol capitalizing at the line following a Blue Jay foul. Stevenson knocked down shots consistently over the next four minutes, building a five-point advantage, 51-46.
With 15:44 remaining, the game turned into a possession-by-possession battle. A three-point basket by Johns Hopkins sparked a momentum shift for the home team, allowing the Blue Jays to regroup and reclaim the lead. Despite strong efforts and remaining within striking distance, Stevenson was ultimately outpaced down the stretch, resulting in the 90-82 setback.
Stevenson remains on the road as the Mustangs open MAC Commonwealth play at Messiah on Wednesday, January 7, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
