Owings Mills, Md. (January 3) – The Stevenson women's basketball team opened the new calendar year on its home court, hosting Arcadia in a cross-MAC matchup. The contest saw the Knights pull away late, as Arcadia secured a 59–47 victory over the Mustangs.
Arcadia jumped out to an early 8–2 advantage before
Kalea Wynter knocked down a jumper to spark Stevenson's offense. Strong defensive play followed, and a basket from
Janiya Ennis trimmed the deficit to just two points, 8–6. The Knights responded with an increased tempo and closed the opening quarter ahead, 16–10.
With a fresh 10 minutes on the clock in the second quarter, Stevenson capitalized on opportunities to close the gap. A jumper from
Nadia Ferguson and a three-pointer from
Anaya Price ignited the Mustangs' momentum. After a brief scoring drought for both teams, Stevenson pulled within three following consecutive three-pointers from Ella Richardson and
Isabella Serano. Arcadia answered with a triple of its own and carried a 30–23 lead into halftime.
The Mustangs stayed within striking distance to open the third quarter, as a layup by
Tessa Boswell cut the deficit to just one point. Arcadia regained control shortly thereafter, rebuilding its lead to six before extending the advantage to 10 by the end of the quarter, heading into the final period up 45–35.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Stevenson threatened to make a late push, closing the gap to 48–41. However, Arcadia had an answer for each Mustang basket down the stretch, maintaining at least a seven-point cushion and sealing the 59–47 final.
Stevenson returns to action on the road for its MAC Commonwealth opener at Messiah University on Wednesday, January 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
