Reading, Pa. (January 29) – The Stevenson Mustangs put together a complete four-quarter effort on Wednesday night, earning a hard-fought 61–59 MAC Commonwealth road victory over Albright at the Bollman Center.
Stevenson set the tone early, jumping out to a fast start behind aggressive defense and efficient offense. After winning the opening tip, the Mustangs quickly found their rhythm as
Tessa Boswell knocked down an early three-pointer to give Stevenson the lead.
Janiya Ennis attacked in transition and capitalized off turnovers, scoring multiple times in the paint as the Mustangs built momentum. A late pull-up three from Ennis capped the opening quarter, sending Stevenson into the second period with a 19–11 advantage.
The Mustangs continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, stretching the lead to double digits.
Anaya Price drained a three early in the frame, while
Kalea Wynter converted from the free-throw line after an offensive rebound to push the lead to 13. Albright attempted to close the gap with strong interior play, but Ennis answered with a pair of baskets and a three-pointer in the final minute. Stevenson went into halftime firmly in control, leading 33–24.
Albright made its push coming out of the break, using a strong third quarter to tighten the contest. The Lions opened the half with a steady scoring run, but Stevenson stayed composed. Price and Ennis continued to generate offense, while the Mustangs' defense forced key stops to limit the damage. Despite Albright outscoring Stevenson in the period, the Mustangs maintained a slim 47–48 edge heading into the final 10 minutes.
The fourth quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading baskets down the stretch. Ennis again stepped up for Stevenson, attacking the lane and finishing through contact to keep the Mustangs in front. Defensive rebounds and timely possessions proved critical in the closing minutes, as Stevenson held off Albright's late surge. The Mustangs closed out the contest at the free-throw line and with strong defensive execution to secure the 61–59 victory.
Stevenson will return home for its next contest on Saturday, January 31, hosting Alvernia at 1:00 p.m. in MAC Commonwealth action. The game will be played in honor of Colon Cancer Awareness.
