Men's Basketball Battles to the Buzzer in Tight Contest vs. Eastern

Owings Mills, Md. (January 17) – The Stevenson men's basketball team delivered an energetic, wire-to-wire effort Saturday afternoon inside Owings Mills Gymnasium, building a commanding first-half lead and battling down to the final possession before narrowly falling to Eastern, 75–73, in MAC Commonwealth action.

The Mustangs set the tone early with defensive pressure and efficient offense. After the opening minutes featured a few exchanged empty trips, Stevenson found its rhythm behind Kole Beaman and Myles Jackson. Beaman attacked the lane for a pair of baskets and later knocked down free throws to spark a run that pushed Stevenson in front. A fast-break three from Noah Ihezue and a transition layup by Kendall Seguignol stretched the advantage, forcing Eastern into an early timeout.

Stevenson continued to capitalize on turnovers, turning steals into quick points as the pace favored the Mustangs. Jackson drilled a three-pointer to extend the margin, while Seguignol finished strong in the paint during a 10–0 surge that gave Stevenson its largest lead of the half. Late free throws from Beaman capped the opening period, sending the Mustangs into the break with a 39–28 advantage.

The momentum carried into the second half as Beaman opened the period with a turnaround jumper and a three-pointer, pushing Stevenson's lead to double digits. Christian Jackson added a fast-break layup, and Seguignol converted inside to keep the Mustangs in control. Stevenson maintained its composure as Eastern attempted to chip away, answering with timely baskets from Ihezue and Kyle Luddy to preserve a comfortable cushion.

Eastern mounted a late push midway through the half, trimming the deficit with a string of transition scores and second-chance opportunities. The Mustangs responded with poised execution, as Beaman connected on a mid-range jumper and Luddy knocked down a clutch three to reestablish breathing room.

Despite a final late surge and final second basket by the Eagles, Stevenson's effort remained relentless until the final horn, which resulted in a 75-73 loss.

The Mustangs return to the road for their next contest, traveling to York (Pa.) on Wednesday, January 21, for a 7:00 p.m. MAC Commonwealth matchup.
