Frederick, Md. (January 14) – The Stevenson women's basketball team put together a strong all-around effort on Wednesday night, pulling away in the middle quarters to earn a 58–41 road win over Hood for it's first MAC Commonwealth victory of the season.
Hood scored first, but the Mustangs answered when
Kalea Wynter finished in the paint off an assist from
Janiya Ennis. Stevenson's defense forced several early turnovers, and
Aliyah Jean-Jacques provided a lift off the bench as the Mustangs stayed within reach, trailing 14–9 after one.
Stevenson seized momentum in the second quarter. Wynter converted at the line, Ennis added a second-chance bucket, and
Anaya Price knocked down a three-pointer to pull Stevenson within one.
Nadia Ferguson followed with a layup to give the Mustangs the lead, and a late surge highlighted by another Price triple and consecutive baskets from Jean-Jacques fueled a decisive run that sent Stevenson into halftime up 30–20.
The Mustangs continued to build their lead in the third quarter. Wynter scored twice inside, Price connected on a jumper, and
Tessa Boswell drilled a three-pointer to extend the advantage.
Destiny Towns added a late finish as Stevenson carried a 47–33 edge into the final period.
Stevenson controlled the fourth quarter behind steady defense and efficient scoring in the paint, closing out the 58–41 victory. Price led the way with 20 points, while Wynter added 12 and Jean-Jacques chipped in 10.
The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, January 17 at 1:00 p.m. against Eastern and will honor it's alumni prior to tip off.
