Balanced Attack Leads Women's Volleyball Past Messiah for a 3-1 Victory

Mechanicsburg, Pa. (September 30) – In Tuesday evening's MAC Commonwealth matchup, the Stevenson women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Messiah to remain unbeaten in conference play at 2-0.

The Mustangs claimed the first, second, and fourth sets with scores of 25-21, 27-25, and 25-21, while the Falcons took the third set, 25-17.

Set 1:
Stevenson came out strong, building a 7-2 lead to set the tone early. Messiah responded with a five-point run to even the score, but the Mustangs answered with 10 points during a serving stretch from Declyn Tooze. Stevenson maintained its edge to close out the frame, 25-21.

Set 2:
Momentum swung back and forth throughout the second set, with neither side able to pull away. A kill from Maren Zepfel knotted the score at 14-14, and later a kill from Logan Burge tied it again at 23-23. The Mustangs held firm in extra points, edging Messiah 27-25 for a 2-0 match lead.

Set 3:
Looking to close out the match in straight sets, Stevenson held a slim 13-11 lead before Messiah responded. The Falcons surged ahead and limited the Mustangs to just four points the rest of the way, taking the set 25-17.

Set 4:
Stevenson quickly regrouped, jumping out to a 7-4 lead. A set from Courtney Foose to Giulia Viglietta for a kill helped steady the Mustangs' attack, and they extended the advantage to 20-15. Messiah cut the deficit to three, but Stevenson held on to seal the match with a 25-21 win.

With the 3-1 victory, the Mustangs improve to 2-0 in conference play.

Stevenson returns home this weekend to host a tri-match on Saturday, October 4. The Mustangs will face Mary Washington at 12 p.m. and William Paterson at 4 p.m., with Mary Washington and William Paterson squaring off at 2 p.m.
