Men's Soccer Falls to Roanoke in Athey Cup Finale

Chestertown, Md. – In the final game of the Athey Cup, hosted by Washington College, the Stevenson men's soccer team generated several offensive opportunities but was unable to convert, falling to Roanoke, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.

In the first half, the Mustangs trailed in total shots but earned two more corner kicks than the Maroons. Neither side broke through before the halftime break, with Stevenson goalkeeper Nolen Warwick-Olson keeping the score level by making three saves in the opening 45 minutes and four overall in the match.

The game remained tightly contested until the 53:34 mark of the second half, when Roanoke capitalized on an assist to score the lone goal of the contest.
Stevenson pushed forward in the closing minutes in search of the equalizer, but the Maroons held on to secure the win.

The Mustangs return home for the first time this season on Wednesday, September 3, hosting their home opener on Owings Mills East Campus. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
