Mustangs open season with victory over Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. – The Stevenson women's soccer team (1-0) notched a 4-1 victory over the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors (0-1) on Friday evening. Kamille Purcell and Colleen Fanning led the Mustangs with two goals each to open the 2025 season.

In the first half, Purcell opened scoring in the fourth minute of the match off a ball from Karly Sheahan. The remainder of the first half consisted of a back-and-forth battle between the teams. The Scarlet-Raptors out shot the Mustangs 5-2 overall, 2-1 on goal, but with two saves from Isabella Serano, Stevenson led 1-0 heading into halftime.

Stevenson picked up speed in the second half, netting three more goals. In the 69th minute, Colleen Fanning found the back of the net off a pass from Purcell, as Purcell followed less than five minutes later with another goal off a ball from Katelyn Lacey. With about five minutes left to play, Fanning netted her second goal of the contest with an assist from Jalynn Mayfield-Rice. The Scarlet Raptors put their lone goal away in the final minute of the match. In the second half, Rutgers-Camden out shot Stevenson 6-4 overall, but Stevenson held the leverage of out shooting the Scarlet Raptors 3-2 on goal.

Purcell led the squad with a five-point game from two goals and an assist. Fanning slotted four points from her two goals, as Lacey, Mayfield-Rice, and Sheahan each tallied a point from an assist. Serano snagged her first collegiate start and win in goal with three saves for Stevenson.
