CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Stevenson field hockey squad (1-0) snagged a 2-1 victory over the Washington (Md.) Shorewomen (0-1) on Friday night. This victory is the first time in the all-time series against Washington, that the Mustangs have won for two straight seasons.
The Shorewomen opened scoring on the evening with a goal in the second minute of the contest. The Mustangs battled back, and in the 14
th minute of the first quarter,
Shae Bennett put Stevenson on the board to tie the game. The Mustangs out shot the Shorewomen 5-2 overall, and 3-2 on goal in the first.
In the second quarter, it was an equal battle between both teams each putting up a shot on goal, but Bennet found the back of the net again off a pass from
Kailen Hibshman to slot a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
The Mustangs held the Shorewomen to two shots in the second half, while putting up 13 shots, eight of them on goal.
Bennett led the Mustangs with a two-goal evening, as Hibshman tallied an assist.
Jordan Vradenburgh took the win in cage, snagging two saves.
Stevenson returns home to host Sewanee for the squad's home opener on Sunday. The contest is set for 11 a.m.
