FREDERICK, Md. – The Stevenson women's Lacrosse team (8-5 overall, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) claimed victory over Hood College (4-8 overall, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) on Wednesday night, 20-5, in a road contest. A total of eight Mustangs managed to find the back of the net in this contest.
The first goal of the game was netted by
Kellyann Coccia roughly one minute into the game. This sparked the Mustangs to go on a run with the next goal coming 30 seconds after from
Isabelle VanEmburgh. Coccia would once again find the back of the net this quarter, followed by back-to-back goals from
Kara Yarusso around the 8-minute mark to give the Mustangs a 5-0 lead. With 4:38 remaining in the quarter,
Katherine Friedman would add herself to the mix by netting a goal of her own. With 15 seconds left, Yarusso netted a free position goal to give herself 3 goals in the quarter and a 7-1 lead for the Mustangs.
In the second quarter,
Ava Treakle found the back of net at 8:29, followed by a second VanEmburgh goal 20 seconds later. Friedman notched another goal one minute later to push Stevenson ahead 10-1. Coccia finished off the half for Stevenson, notching her third goal of the game with 38 seconds remaining, making her the second Stevenson player with a first half hat trick as the Mustangs lead 11-2.
Maddy Kline was the first Stevenson player to notch a goal in the second half, followed by Friedman again who scored roughly 2 minutes later and solidified a hat trick of her own. At 8:30,
Olivia Galati scored a Man-Up goal off a Yarusso assist. Yarusso then scored a free position goal, and the third quarter ended 15-4 with Stevenson ahead.
Friedman scored her fourth goal of the evening thirty seconds into the quarter. Two minutes later, Yarusso sent her fifth goal into the back of the net. At around the 10-minute mark,
Sophia Murray became the eight Stevenson player to score in the game. Soon after, Galati found the back of the net for her second goal of the evening, and Yarusso scored her sixth goal of the game to give Stevenson the 20-5 victory over Hood College.
Yarusso collected three ground balls and tallied seven points in this game with six goals and one assist. Friedman, who broke her career high 6-point mark which she had set in their previous game scored four goals and had three assists for seven points as well. Coccia finished the game with three goals, followed by VanEmburgh and Galati who both had two goals each. Murray collected three ground balls and had a goal and two assists for a three-point night. Kline and Treakle both tallied a goal as well.
