Softball splits with McDaniel

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University softball team split a pair of games against cross country rival McDaniel on Wednesday afternoon.

In game one, Stevenson blanked McDaniel 2-0, while the Green Terror (11-11-1) defeated the Mustangs (18-6) 4-1 in the nightcap.

Game 1 – Stevenson 2, McDaniel 0

Stevenson scored both of its runs in the third inning as Mykaela Getz singled up the middle scoring Caylee Cliett, while McKenzie Tobler scored on a RBI single by Ava Stafursky.

Tobler, Getz, Stafursky, Rebecca Henry and Tessa Boswell all hit safely in the win.

The two runs were more than enough for Angelica Gurevich who improved to 7-1 with a six-hit, eight strikeout performance.

Game 2 – McDaniel 4, Stevenson 1

McDaniel scored twice in the fifth and twice in the seventh, taking advantage of five Stevenson errors in the win.

The lone run came in the seventh as Tobler tripled to center scoring Sahara Ward.

Tobler, Stafursky, Ward along with Rebecca Maiorano and Danielle Mills all hit safely.

Alexis Kirkessner took the loss, falling to 7-3. She allowed four runs but they were all unearned. She struck out four and allowed two walks.

Stevenson is scheduled to host Alvernia on Saturday.
