OWINGS MILLS, Md. - On Senior Day, the Stevenson University softball team needed a little extra to earn a split with Alvernia.
In game one, Alvernia scored five times in the top of the fifth in a 7-4 win, while in game two, Stevenson (19-7, 6-4 MACC) scored the game-winning run in the ninth in a 5-4 victory over the Golden Wolves (17-15, 3-7 MACC).
Game 1 - Alvernia 7, Stevenson 4
In the opener, Stevenson scored in the first as
McKenzie Tobler scored on an RBI single by
Rebecca Maiorano. Stevenson increased the lead to 2-0 in the third as Tobler scored on a wild pitch.
Down 7-2 in the sixth, Stevenson got two back in the bottom of the inning as
Caylee Cliett singled home
Rebecca Henry followed by
Tessa Boswell scoring a single from
Sahara Ward.
Despite the loss, Stevenson banged out 11 hits in the opener.
Mykaela Getz had three hits, with Maiorano and
Ava Stafursky getting two each.
Angelica Gurevich took the loss, falling to 7-2. In 4.2 innings, she struck out three and walked one while allowing five runs, all unearned.
Game 2 - Stevenson 5, Alvernia 4 (9 innings)
Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, Stevenson pulled even as Stafursky hit a two-run single to score Getz and Tobler.
In the ninth,
Danielle Mills had the game-winning hit, a RBI double to right scoring Henry.
In the first inning, Stevenson tied the score at 1-all on a RBI single by Maiorano. A RBI single by Getz in the second inning scored
Maddie Buher giving the Mustangs a 2-1 lead.
Getz finished game two 4-for-4 with a run scored, while Tobler, Maiorano, Stafursky and Buher all had two hits each.
Alexis Kirkessner went the distance, striking out nine and walking two in nine innings of work to improve to 7-4.
After the game, Stevenson honored
